KOCHI: Filmmaker Baiju Kottarakkara has alleged that some people are trying to project all sexual assault complaints raised in the film industry as false allegations by pointing out the allegations levelled against actor Nivin Pauly. Earlier, Nivin Pauly had come out expressing suspicion that there was a conspiracy behind the sexual allegations against him. He had expressed doubts that people from the film industry itself were behind this, in a complaint filed with the Crime Branch ADGP. Baiju Kottarakkara's response comes after this.
"I believe that this is an attempt by some people to dismiss all complaints as false and discredit those who make allegations. The complainant in this case (sexual assault case against Nivin Pauly) has several cases in her name, including ganja case. The credibility of some other complainants is also in question. Nivin is currently part of some big projects. It's unclear whether this complaint is an attempt by certain individuals to hinder his growth. Such attempts are common in film circles, and that aspect also needs to be investigated," Baiju Kottarakkara said.
Following the release of the Hema Committee report, numerous individuals, including actresses, came forward with sexual misconduct allegations against various actors and directors. It was during this time that a woman filed a complaint alleging that Nivin Pauly and five others had sexually assaulted her in a hotel room in Dubai after promising her a role in a film. However, on the same day the allegation was made, Nivin denied it and announced that he would take legal action against the complainant.
