NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made several promises to Jammu and Kashmir following the first phase of voting in the assembly elections. His key promises include statehood for Jammu and Kashmir, an annual financial support of Rs 10,000 for farmers, an annual financial support of Rs 18,000 for senior women in each family, homes for 1,000 families who lack housing and raising insurance coverage from ₹5 lakh to ₹7 lakh.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the voters of Jammu and Kashmir for the record polling in the first phase of the assembly elections. He noted that the people of Jammu and Kashmir, once infamous for stone-pelting at security personnel, are now walking the streets with books and pens in hand. He also praised the people of Jammu and Kashmir for coming to polling booths in large numbers.
Jammu and Kashmir witnessed a historic voter turnout of 60.21 per cent in the first phase of polling across 24 constituencies. This is the highest polling percentage in the last seven elections held in Jammu and Kashmir.
