THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a bid to shield the teaching posts, some colleges are subverting four-year undergraduate courses, by not offering the subject combination preferred by students. After noticing this, the government directed the Higher Education Council to form an expert committee to study and submit a report. The committee will visit all the universities and study the matter in detail.

The four-year course offers the opportunity for students to design their course by choosing a subject combination according to their academic and career interests. For example, you can study chemistry, physics with electronics; literature, music, with chemistry. For this, colleges must have a basket of courses to offer to their students.

However, it was complained that the combinations requested by the students were not given. Instead, the existing subjects in the colleges were given as combinations. Through this, a move is being made to adjust the workload of teachers and maintain their posts. This has forced the government to allow students to study two subjects of their choice in any other colleges or online.

Skill training is part of the course but not facilitated in most places.

1. The government will issue general instructions to ensure that all colleges follow the same standard for four-year courses.

2. This is because credits earned by students are deposited in the Academic Bank of Credit and transferred elsewhere.
