Two persons die of suffocation after entering waste pit in Thrissur

THRISSUR: In a tragic incident, two people suffocated to death after entering the waste pit of a bakery unit in Thrissur. The incident took place in Karoor in Mala at around 2.15 pm today. The accident happened in the waste pit adjacent to Royal Bakers' manufacturing unit.

The deceased have been identified as Jithesh (45) and Sunilkumar (52). The two men had entered the drainage system to clear a blockage in the waste pit. Sunil Kumar was the first to enter, and when he experienced breathing difficulties, Jithesh entered to rescue him but also became victim to the same fate.

The bodies were later retrieved by the Fire Force team from Chalakudy. The bodies have been shifted to the hospital. According to Fire Force personnel, the lack of oxygen inside the tank, which had only a manhole, resulted in the deaths.
