Sexual assault complaint: Edavela Babu arrested, questioned for nearly three hours

KOCHI: Police have arrested actor Edavela Babu for allegedly sexually assaulting an actress. He was later released bail as the court had granted him anticipatory bail. Earlier, the police had directed the actor to appear before the Special Investigation Team in Kochi for questioning. The actor's arrest was recorded by 1 pm.

The Ernakulam Town North Station registered the case against Edavela Babu on August 28. In her complaint, the actress alleged that Edavela Babu allegedly coerced her into visiting his flat to process her AMMA membership, where he then kissed her neck without consent. The case has been filed under charges of sexual harassment and outraging modesty of a woman. If found guilty, the accused may face imprisonment of up to 10 years along with a fine.
