THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In the wake of the controversies, ADGP MR Ajith Kumar asked the DGP whether it was enough to inform the Customs about the gold smuggling at the Karipur airport. However, DGP Sheikh Darvesh Saheb emphasized that police investigation and gold seizure must continue unabated. The matter was discussed yesterday in the meeting of senior police officers at the Police Headquarters. The DGP suggested that the special squad under Malappuram SP's leadership should continue to seize gold smuggling in Karipur.

PV Anvar MLA had alleged that Chief Minister's Political Secretary P Sasi and ADGP MR Ajith Kumar were involved in gold smuggling, sparking a political controversy. The DGP's direction to continue with the inspections comes amidst this. Anvar had also claimed that police were embezzling up to 30% of the seized gold.

The DGP said that a mafia was behind the gold smuggling in Karipur and that if police don't seize the gold, it will pave the way for other serious crimes. Smuggled gold should be seized as soon as the police receive information. However, the procedures must be carried out legally, the DGP said. He also said that the police can continue taking actions as per the previously given guidelines. Superintendents of Police (SP) and higher officials participated in the meeting.
