FLORIDA: Hurricane 'Milton,' capable of reaching speeds up to 285 kilometres per hour, made landfall, leading to heavy rain and strong winds in Florida. Milton, which intensified into a Category 3 hurricane, is striking coastal areas with winds at a speed of 105 miles per hour.
According to reports, several people have died at an old-age home in Florida following the hurricane. There is also a threat of flooding in Florida due to heavy rains. Tampa received 10 inches of rain, while the city of St. Petersburg saw 17 inches. Numerous homes have been reported damaged due to the hurricane, and approximately two million people are without power.
Authorities had earlier warned that Milton would make landfall on Florida's west coast as a Category 5 storm. Category 5 storms are classified as the most dangerous hurricanes. As a precaution, a state of emergency was declared in Florida, and high-alert warnings were issued along the coast. Thousands of people evacuated their homes and moved to safer locations. Milton is predicted to be the most powerful hurricane since Hurricane Rita in 2005.
