MUMBAI: Mumbai mourned the passing of esteemed industrialist Ratan Tata, who passed away at 86 at Breach Candy Hospital. The public paid their last respects at the National Center for Performing Arts until 4 PM, before his body was taken to the Worli crematorium for burial according to Parsi rites, accompanied by full official honors and a 21-gun salute.

Thousands gathered to catch a final glimpse of Tata, underscoring his impact on society. A significant police presence ensured order during the solemn occasion. Dignitaries, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, joined a host of political, social, industrial and film personalities to honor Tata’s legacy. Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, State Education Minister Deepak Kesarkar, and business tycoon Mukesh Ambani were among the first to arrive at the hospital upon hearing the news.

Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar and other notable figures also visited Tata's residence to pay their tributes. Reports confirmed that Amit Shah would represent the Government of India at the funeral. The Maharashtra government declared a day of mourning in his honor.

Ratan Tata was admitted to the hospital on Monday for age-related health issues, later informing followers on social media that there was no cause for concern. However, his condition worsened, leading to his transfer to the intensive care unit. The nation recognizes Tata’s contributions with the prestigious Padma Vibhushan award, marking a significant legacy that will endure beyond his lifetime.
