KOCHI: Opposition leader VD Satheesan responded to CPM State Secretary MV Govindan's criticism over DCC’s controversial letter about candidate selection in Palakkad.

V D SATHEESAN:

“CPM was zeroing in on another candidate. M B Rajesh’s brother-in-law was considered and even the district panchayat president's name also came into consideration but what happened finally?

It is normal for parties to consider a wide array of options in selecting their candidates. BJP considered the names of Shobha Surendran, K Surendran, Krishnakumar and others. Even Shobha Surendran’s flex boards appeared in Palakkad. It was burnt later. Isn’t this news? But Govindan is hell-bent on attacking me in the candidate selection of Rahul Mamkootathil.

Doesn’t this Govindan carry any shame? His party allowed a seat to someone who knocked on the doors of BJP in a desperate attempt to become a candidate in Palakkad. The DCC chairman suggested three names. One of them became a candidate. Why there is a big fuss over it?

If considering things in the same vein, there should also be protests in BJP over Shobha Surendran’s purported candidature from Palakkad. Why nobody is talking about it?

Congress has fielded Youth Congress state president in Palakkad. The party has decided to bring more youngsters into the foray and in the first such opportunity, Rahul has been fielded in Palakkad. More youngsters will represent Congress in coming elections.”
