THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The mother-in-law of Shruthi, the Malayali teacher who committed suicide in Nagercoil, has died. Chembakavalli, the mother-in-law, had attempted suicide after she was questioned by the police in connection with Shruthi's suicide. She had been undergoing treatment at the hospital for the past few days.
In her last message, Shruthi had claimed that she was committing suicide as she was unable to bear the torture by Chembakavalli. Shruthi was the daughter of Kollam Pidavoor native Babu and Sathidevi, who are settled in Coimbatore. Shruthi was found hanging at the house of her husband in Suchindran at around 7.30 am on October 21.
Shruthi, who held an MA degree in English, was an assistant professor at SN College in Coimbatore. She got married to Karthik, a Tamil Nadu Electricity Board clerk and native of Suchindram, six months ago. After the wedding, Shruthi was forced to resign from her job due to pressure from her husband's family.
