BENGALURU: Karnataka High Court has granted interim bail to Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa, accused in the case of murder of fan Renukaswamy, has been granted interim bail. Justice S Vishwajit Shetty has granted bail for six weeks for the purpose of surgery.

A team of doctors from the Bellary Central Jail and the report of the head of the neurology department of the Bellary government hospital had been submitted to the court in a sealed cover. Bail was granted only after this assessment. Darshan is feeling numbness in both legs and wants surgery at a private hospital in Mysuru. The court said that the documents related to the treatment and the passport should be submitted within seven days.

Darshan has informed that he can bear the expenses himself. The prosecution objected to the bail stating that there was no information in the bail petition, including the number of days he would have to stay in the hospital. The prosecution also argued that the surgery can be done in a government hospital. Renukaswamy, a native of Chitradurga, was killed by the actor for sending obscene messages to actress Pavitra Gowda, who was a friend to actor Darshan.

19 people were arrested in the case. Renukaswamy was killed on June 8. His dead body was found in the drain of Kamakshipalayam at nine o'clock. Pavitra was also arrested in the case. Darshan is currently lodged in the Parappana Agrahara Central Jail in Bengaluru.
