THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A 68-year-old man was sentenced to double life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 60,000 in the case of sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl in Thiruvananthapuram. Thiruvananthapuram fast track court sentenced the accused Vikraman in the case registered by Mangalapuram police.
The accused molested the six-year-old girl in front of the victim’s sister, a nine-year-old girl. It is reported that the elder sister was also brutally assaulted by the accused and the court will pronounce its verdict in this case on November 5.
The children were under the care of their grandmother, as their parents had abandoned them long back. Accused Vikramam had a fling with the grandmother and used to live with the family. The brutal incident happened during the 2020-21 time.
At times when the grandmother went out, Vikraman would torture the children and would also issue death threats to prevent the children from speaking out about the incident. Children were also harassed by showing obscene videos. As the act continued with impunity, the private parts of the victims started getting bruised. Strangely, the accused and the grandmother often engaged in sexual acts in front of the children.
The accused used to ensure that all doors and windows of the house were closed, to restrict any cries or sounds from going out. But one day, a neighbour caught sight of the horrendous act as Vikraman forgot to close one of the doors in their rented house. This triggered a case and now the children are safely housed in the children’s home undertaken by the Kerala government.
