DYFI attack on Youth Congress activists; CPM allege attack on panchayat president and ward member; police station blockaded

CHERUTHURUTHI: Two Youth Congress activists were allegedly beaten up by DYFI activists when they came to protest near the Cochin Bridge in Cheruthuruthi. Nishad Thalassery and Shameer Thalassery, both natives of Thalassery in Desamangalam, were attacked. They were seriously injured and have been admitted to a hospital. According to the complaint, they were beaten up by a DYFI team led by Vallathol Nagar panchayat president Sheikh Abdul Khader. The incident took place at 4.30 pm yesterday.

The blockade by the Congress following this, which started at 5.30 pm in front of the Cheruthuruthi police station, continued till late in the night. The blockade demanded the removal of the station officer and the immediate arrest of the miscreants. TN Prathapan, AA Shukkoor, Anil Akkara, TU Radhakrishnan, CC Sreekumar, PM Aneesh, PA Shanavas, PA Abdul Kareem and others reached the spot. They then held talks with the Kunnamkulam ACP.

Meantime, the CPM alleged that youth Congress activists attacked the Vallathol Nagar panchayat president and ward member. This was followed by a demonstration led by the CPM along the route of the Congress blockade. Meanwhile, an altercation broke out between Congress and CPM activists. The activists were dispersed after the police intervened.
