THRISSUR: A case has been registered against Suresh Gopi MP for coming to Thiruvambady in an ambulance during the time of Thrissur Pooram. The case was registered for using the ambulance illegally. The FIR also stated that the police regulations were violated.
On the day of the disruption of Thrissur Pooram, Suresh Gopi reached Thiruvambady in an ambulance of Seva Bharathi at around 3 am. The Thrissur East Police registered the case on the complaint filed by CPI mandalam secretary advocate Sumesh, pointing violation of law. Abhijith Nair and the ambulance driver have also been named as accused. It is reported that the charge is punishable by up to six months in prison.
The FIR also pointed that he travelled in an ambulance that is only allowed to carry patients, the ambulance travelled in a manner that could cause harm to human life, and that he violated the entire legal purpose of the ambulance through a crowd of people. The complainant had also filed a complaint with the motor vehicles department.
Suresh Gopi had earlier said that he had gone there to ask about the police thrashing pooram lovers and that he had reached the spot in a car. He had clarified that he had not gone there in an ambulance. However, BJP Thrissur district president Aneesh Kumar had rejected Suresh Gopi's claim. He had not said that Suresh Gopi had travelled in an ambulance to Swaraj Round and had reached the round in his car. Moreover, the visuals of Suresh Gopi reaching the city in an ambulance had been widely circulated on social media.
