PALAKKAD: CPM state secretary MV Govindan said that the BJP would end up in the third position in the Palakkad by-election. Speaking to the media, he said that the main competition in Palakkad is between the LDF and the UDF.

"Although the LDF came third in the previous election, this time, the BJP is in the third position from the beginning itself. BJP candidate C Krishnakumar is not going to get any of the votes that E Sreedharan got last time. UDF is not going to get the votes that Shafi got last time," Govindan said.

"The political climate in Palakkad is favourable for the Left Front's independent candidate, Dr P Sarin. The BJP has become weak. The BJP is facing significant internal and external issues. At the same time, a favourable political climate has emerged across the state for the Left Front," he said.

"Several BJP leaders have been linked to smuggling and money laundering of crores of rupees. This will be the biggest crisis to haunt the BJP. Surendran is claiming that Shafi Parambil was given four crores. Congress and BJP have emerged as biggest advocates of hawala money," Govindan added.
