Isolated heavy rains likely; various districts on yellow alert

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: There is a warning of heavy rain in the state today. Yellow alert has been announced in various districts. Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam and Idukki are on yellow alert.

A chance of isolated heavy rain has been predicted. Heavy rains mean rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24 hours.

During the next three hours, there is a possibility of light rain with thundershowers at isolated places in Thiruvananthapuram and Idukki with gusty winds of less than 40 kmph. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) also said that moderate rain is also possible at isolated places in Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam and Thrissur.

There is a possibility of rain with thunder and lightning at isolated places till Monday. Thunderstorms are dangerous. So, you have to be very careful. Officials have warned people to move inside a safe building immediately after seeing the first sign of lightning and staying in open places increases the chance of being struck by lightning.

Avoid proximity to electrical appliances during thunderstorms. Avoid using the telephone during thunderstorms. It is okay to use a mobile phone.
