ALAPPUZHA: In a tragic accident, a pregnant woman fell into a drain under construction at Indira Junction in Alappuzha. The incident happened on Thursday night. The four-month-pregnant woman was walking along with her husband to buy clothes from a store across the drain.

The pathway was made with a thin wooden board and it broke into shreds as the woman stepped on it. The CCTV visuals also emerged showing the graveness of the situation. However, in one lucky escape, the doctors confirmed the woman as healthy and said she was free of any health scare.

In the wake of the accident, residents and traders staged a protest. After this, a slab was placed over the drain this morning. For about three weeks, wooden planks were placed on top of the drain. The construction work of the demolished drain has been going on for a month. The locals also complained about officials not placing any warning boards on site.
