KANNUR: The sky was clear, people started appearing in polling booths, and optimism beamed in major political party camps. This was how Wednesday began until EP Jayarajan’s autobiography hit town. It shook the political base and gave shrills to LDF on another election day.
“The second Pinarayi Government is weak; Palakkad candidate P Sarin is an opportunist and will end up as a bane for CPM.” These were just a few excerpts from the book that put the LDF leadership in a fix.
The excerpts from EP Jayarajan’s autobiography ‘Kattan chayayum parippu vadayum oru communistinte jeevitham’ first appeared in an English daily on Wednesday. EP soon denied writing such content and alleged conspiracy. This led to publisher DC Books postponing the book publication that was scheduled on Wednesday.
Despite EP’s quick response dismissing his role in the content and alleging conspiracy, CPM is unsure of their election-day prospects. It was during the polling day of the Lok Sabha elections that news surfaced about EP Jayarajan’s covert meeting with BJP leader Prakash Javadekar. Big leaders from the BJP appeared before the media and revealed how Jayarajan had plans to join the saffron party after getting side-lined in CPM. Jayarajan dismissed the news of his joining BJP but admitted to meeting Javadekar. It didn’t end well for CPM as they got battered in the elections. Soon, Jayarajan was moved from the LDF convenor post.
Explosives from the autobiography:
1 Weak performance in Pinarayi’s second term.
2 Party never cared to listen to Jayarajan's explanation before removing him from the convenor post.
3 Despite Anvar’s volte-face, CPM didn’t learn its lessons and inducted Sarin into the party.
4 Candidate selection was below par during the last Lok Sabha elections
