CHENNAI: After months of speculation and rumors about a possible reunion, actor Dhanush and his wife Aishwarya Rajinikanth have confirmed their separation. The couple appeared in a Chennai family court today, marking their first appearance in two years since they announced their decision to divorce.
There had been persistent rumors that the couple might reconcile, particularly after they missed three consecutive hearings, leading some to believe they were considering a reunion. However, their joint appearance in court today seems to put an end to such hopes.
The court hearing, which is ongoing, has been adjourned to November 27, with the possibility of a final verdict being issued on that day. Both Dhanush and Aishwarya were seen arriving at the court wearing masks.
The couple married in 2004 when Dhanush was 21 years old, after a six-month relationship. They have two sons, Yatra and Linga. Dhanush is the son of Tamil film producer and director Kasthuri Raja and Aishwarya is the eldest daughter of superstar Rajinikanth.
In a joint statement issued earlier, the couple expressed their decision to part ways, stating: "We have been together for eighteen years as friends, a couple, parents and well-wishers. This journey has been one of growth and compromise. Today, we are both on different paths. Aishwarya and I have decided to separate as a couple. We are taking the time to understand each other as individuals. Please respect our decision and give us the privacy we need to navigate this phase."
