Highest rainfall in 30 years; Cyclone Fengal exits Tamil Nadu

CHENNAI: Cyclone Fengal is gradually exiting the coast of Puducherry and will leave Tamil Nadu soon. In a few hours, the cyclone will move to the western part and will eventually weaken. The weather department has announced that there will be thunderstorms in northern Tamil Nadu.

A holiday has been declared for educational institutions in Puducherry today. Heavy rainfall is continuing in the Puducherry, Cuddalore, and Villupuram regions of Tamil Nadu. Nine people died in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry due to rain. Water entered many hospitals and houses in the state. Meanwhile, Chennai airport opened on Sunday and resumed functioning.

Chief Minister MK Stalin and Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin visited the disaster-affected regions on Sunday. Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Andhra coasts continue to be on high alert. The red alert in Tamil Nadu has been withdrawn. The metropolitan city of Chennai was inundated, with waterlogging reported in many sectors of the capital city.

Many suburban train services were also stopped. This is the highest rainfall Puducherry has witnessed in the last 30 years. The army is continuing the rescue operation. NDRF rescued around 200 people in the state on Sunday.
