Centre accepts Kerala's demand, classifies Wayanad landslides as severe category disaster

NEW DELHI: The central government has taken a crucial decision regarding the Wayanad landslide disaster. The Centre has announced that the Wayanad disaster has been classified as a severe category disaster, based on the state's request. However, it is unclear whether it has been categorized as Level 3, as Kerala had demanded. The ministerial committee is currently examining a package worth Rs 2,219 crore. A decision on this matter will be made in accordance with the guidelines.

The central government has clarified that Kerala has Rs 783 crore in the State Disaster Response Fund. It also stated that Rs 153 crore was allocated to Kerala on November 16.

Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi had met with Union Minister Amit Shah regarding the Wayanad package. UDF and LDF MPs were present alongside Priyanka Gandhi during the meeting. The delegation, including Priyanka Gandhi, requested assistance of Rs 2,221 crore. Amit Shah said that detailed information about the Wayanad package will be provided tomorrow.
