PATHANAMTHITTA: A detailed post-mortem report in the case of former Kannur ADM Naveen Babu confirmed the death to be suicide by hanging. The post-mortem report points out that there were no injuries on Naveen Babu's body. The post-mortem was conducted between 12.40 pm and 1.50 pm on October 15.
No injury was found in the skull portion or to the ribs. The upper part of the left lung was seen attached to the chest wall. Muscles and major blood vessels are not injured. The eyes were closed while cartilage, vertebrae and oesophagus were in normal condition. The nose, mouth and ears were uninjured. The lips were blue. No damage to teeth and gums. The tongue was injured due to biting and the nails turned blue at the time of death.
The body showed no signs of decomposition. The stomach and bladder were empty. The spinal cord was not injured. A yellowish-coloured plastic rope of 0.5 cm diameter was tied around the neck. The long part of the rope was 103 cm long. The rope also had a free part of 30 m in length. The length of the knot around the neck was 22 cm. Meanwhile, the internal organs have not been sent for chemical testing. The post-mortem report doesn’t mention whether the internal organs were collected for chemical analysis.
Naveen Babu’s wife Manjusha had approached the court with a petition after losing confidence in the police investigation. The family also requested the CBI to take over the case from the state police. The family had earlier raised doubts of Naveen Babu getting killed and later being hanged by culprits. The CBI on Friday, agreed to take up the case if directed by the High Court.
