KANNUR: The Madayi College appointment controversy is causing a major rift within the Congress party in Kannur, the Lok Sabha constituency of KPCC president K Sudhakaran. With the DCC leadership siding with the sentiments of local workers, the conflict has escalated into a standoff between MP MK Raghavan and the Congress in Kannur. The DCC leadership, which accuses Raghavan of disregarding the feelings of party workers, has expressed its displeasure to the KPCC over Raghavan's actions. This new controversy appears to be strengthening the A group within Kannur.
In its explanation given to the KPCC, the DCC stated that the party system is in a crisis in the Payyannur region and that there were ample reasons to justify the action taken against the college directors aligned with MK Raghavan. In a letter to the General Secretary of the organization, the DCC President clarified that the college governing body acted against the interests of the organization. Congress leaders from Kunhimangalam, who faced action for protesting against Raghavan, met Opposition Leader VD Satheesan yesterday. Speaking to the media, Satheesan stated that the KPCC would intervene and resolve the local issue through discussions.
Dhanesh's membership receipt is out
The controversy stems from allegations that MK Dhanesh, a relative of MP MK Raghavan and a CPM worker, was given a job at Madayi College, where Raghavan serves as chairman. However, Raghavan's supporters claim that Dhanesh joined the Congress in 2021. To support this claim, they released a membership receipt dated January 4, 2021, signed by the Kunhimangalam Congress Mandalam President. Meanwhile, Mandalam President K. Vijayan responded that Dhanesh's membership was cancelled immediately at that time due to local opposition.
