Container lorry overturns on Volvo XC90 SUV; Chandrayagappa Gaul and five members of his family crushed to death

BENGALURU: Six members of a family met a tragic end when a container lorry overturned on top of their car. The accident took place on the Bengaluru-Tumakuru highway at around eleven o'clock this morning. Vijayanapura resident Chandrayagappa Gaul (48), wife Gaurabai (42), their relative Vijayalakshmi (36) and their children Jaan (16), Deeksha (12) and Arya (6) died.

An Volvo XC90 B5 Mild Hybrid Ultra SUV and a lorry, which were traveling in the same direction, met with the accident. The out-of-control container lorry collided with another lorry and overturned on top of the SUV. Chandrayagappa and his family inside the car died instantly. The container lorry was lifted from the top of the car with great effort using a crane. The six people in the car were taken to the hospital, but they died.

Chandrayagappa and his family were going to Vijayapura to celebrate Christmas. Chandrayagappa bought the luxury car last October. The dead bodies are kept at the government hospital mortuary in Nelamangala. Due to the accident, the traffic on the national highway was blocked for about three kilometres.
