MUMBAI: The health of former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli is showing improvement. Kambli was hospitalized the other day due to an infection, and tests revealed a blood clot in his brain. He may need to remain in the hospital for over a month. Kambli has also shared his first statement since being admitted.
"The reason I am alive today is because of the doctors," Kambli said. "I am following everything they are telling me to do," he added. Doctors noted that when Kambli was brought to the hospital, he was unable to sit or walk.
Kambli had recently attended the unveiling ceremony of a statue of his coach, Ramakant Achrekar, where Sachin Tendulkar was also present. Images of Kambli tightly holding Tendulkar's hand for support, unable to rise from his seat, sparked discussions. In 2013, Kambli had undergone heart surgery, financially supported by Tendulkar. He had earlier revealed that he relies on the pension provided by the BCCI for his living expenses.
Meanwhile, Kambli was recently booked by the Mumbai Police for allegedly assaulting his wife, Andrea Hewitt, under the influence of alcohol. The incident reportedly took place at their flat in Bandra. Based on Andrea's complaint, a case was filed under IPC Sections 324 and 504.
