Shashi Tharoor MP paid a remarkable tribute to the renowned economist Manmohan Singh, who was the Prime Minister of India for ten years. Tharoor said that Manmohan Singh led the way through history as a towering beacon of truth in the darkness of false historical constructions. 'Under your rule, India was becoming a world power in the economic field, but you were able to bring the benefits of economic growth to the poor as well,' recalls Tharoor.
'When the whole world was reeling under economic recession, he was leading India up the stairs of economic growth one by one. Even world leaders looked up to him with admiration,' penned Tharoor. Manmohan Singh was a soft-spoken and strong-willed leader who led India forward with gentleness.

Dr Manmohan Singh, history has not been kind to you, you are to history...
By lighting the lamps of truth in the darkness spread by false historical constructions, you are showing the way to history as a skyscraper-like beacon. You walked before history...
Dr Singh, you have led us on the path of economic revolution. During your rule, India was becoming a world power in the economic field, but you were able to bring the fruits of economic growth to the poor as well.
Mahatma Gandhi empowered us with welfare schemes like the Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, the Food Security Act, the Right to Education Act, and the Right to Information Act like no other era. When the whole world was reeling under an economic recession, you were holding India's hand and taking it up the stairs of economic growth one by one. When India soared in all sectors under your economic magic, world leaders looked at you with admiration. You were a soft-spoken but strong-willed leader who led India forward with gentleness and without over-emotion.
You were my guide, your colleague for three years in the cabinet you led twice. Dr Singh, you are a strong Prime Minister who stood firm as a great pillar and implemented decisions beneficial to India despite strong opposition.
The economic war victory you won for us was greater than winning many great wars. The media, the opposition and the people of that time did not do justice to you, who lifted hundreds of millions of people above the poverty line. Even when you were hit by arrows one after another, you were only absorbed in your own duty.
Despite how many eloquent press conferences you held, they called you silent. Despite taking many strong decisions, they called you weak. You were a ruler who was perfect in democracy, brotherhood and progress. Time and history bear witness ...
You were right... A good right....
Dr Manmohan Singh (1932-2024)
