Khel Ratna for Gukesh, Manu Bhaker, Arjuna for Malayali Sajan Prakash

NEW DELHI: The winners of this year’s Major Dyan Chand Khel Ratna, the highest sports honour of the country, have been announced. Double Olympic medalist shooter Manu Bhaker, world chess champion D Gukesh, Indian men's hockey team captain Harmanpreet Singh and Paralympian Praveen Kumar have been awarded the Khel Ratna award. Malayali swimmer Sajan Prakash will also be given Arjuna Award. 32 including Sajan Prakash have received Arjuna Award.

The ministry of sports said the winners will be felicitated in a specially organized function at Rashtrapati Bhawan on January 17. Manu Baker's name was not initially in the nomination list for the Khel Ratna award. This created a lot of controversy. The statement of the ministry of sports said the sportspersons were announced as winners after careful and accurate examination.
