Rijith murder case: Nine RSS-BJP workers found guilty by court

THALASSERY: Nine RSS-BJP workers were found guilty by the Thalassery Additional District Sessions Court (III) Judge Ruby K Jose in the case where CPM worker Rijith Shankaran (26) was hacked to death 20 years ago. The court will pronounce the quantum of sentence on January 7. Chunda native Ajesh, the third accused in the case, had passed away in a vehicle accident during the trial.

The accused found guilty include Kannapuram Chunda natives VV Sudhakaran (57), Jayesh (41), CP Ranjith (44), PP Ajeendran (51), IV Anilkumar (52), PP Rajesh (46), VV Sreekanth (47), VV Sreejith (43), and TV Bhaskaran (67).

The court found the accused guilty under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including murder (302), attempted murder (307), unlawful assembly (143), rioting (147), wrongful restraint (341), and causing harm using dangerous weapons (324).

Rijith, a member of the CPM Kannapuram Chunda branch, was murdered on the night of October 3, 2005, at around 9 PM. He was attacked near the Panchayat well while walking home from Thachankandy Temple. His friends Nikesh, Vimal, Vikas, and Sajeevan, who were with him, sustained injuries. The dispute over the establishment of an RSS branch in the area resulted in the murder.
