NEW DELHI: Parliamentary Committee to take action against Mark Zuckerberg who made a false statement that most incumbent governments, including India, lost elections following the Covid-19 pandemic. Representatives of Zuckerberg's company, Meta, will be summoned. IT Parliamentary Committee Chairman and BJP MP Nishikant Dubey said Meta should apologize.
“Meta representatives will be asked to appear between the 20th and 24th of this month. The committee will recommend legal action if they do not apologise. Zuckerberg's statement is tantamount to interfering in India's democracy. India is vibrant democracy. It is a country of 140 million people. After independence, there is the second such government, which has been elected by the people for the third time. However, they tried to mislead the world by giving wrong information that NDA had lost the election. Indian parliament is a sovereign power and no other country can challenge the decision of the parliament" Dubey said.
Zuckerberg said that the Covid epidemic has destroyed the credibility of many governments in the world and that most incumbent governments worldwide, including India, were defeated in polls held post-Covid.
“From free food for 800 million, 2.2 billion free vaccines, and aid to nations worldwide during COVID, to leading India as the fastest-growing major economy, PM Modi’s decisive 3rd-term victory is a testament to good governance and public trust. Meta, it’s disappointing to see misinformation from Mr. Zuckerberg himself. Let’s uphold facts and credibility.”
