THRISSUR: RLV Ramakrishnan has taken charge as the first Malayali dance teacher at the Kerala Kalamandalam. He entered service as an assistant professor in Bharatanatyam department. He responded that he is very happy and proud to be a dance teacher of Kalamandalam. RLV Ramakrishnan is brother of the late actor Kalabhavan Mani.
'I am very happy. In my early days in Kalamandalam, ARR Bhaskar and Rajaratnam Master from Chennai were the dance teachers. I am lucky to have got this job as a teacher in the dance department after them,' Ramakrishnan told media.
Ramakrishnan, who studied Mohiniyattam at RLV College, Tripunithura since 1996, has completed a four-year diploma and post-diploma. He took MA in Mohiniyattam from MG University with first rank. He also secured first place in MPhil in performing arts from Kerala Kalamandalam. He also qualified in NET. He completed his PhD from Kalamandalam itself.
He had served as a guest lecturer in the Mohiniyattam department at Kalady Sanskrit University and RLV College for more than 15 years. He completed his postgraduate degree in Bharatanatyam during 2022-24.
The derogatory remarks of Kalamandalam Sathyabhama against RLV Ramakrishnan had raised a lot of criticism. After this, Kerala Kalamandalam invited Ramakrishnan to perform Mohiniyattam.
Sathyabhama made the controversial remarks against Ramakrishnan in an interview given to a YouTube channel. After this stoked a controversy, many came forward supporting Ramakrishnan. The Human Rights Commission filed a case against Sathyabhama and even Kalamandalam had rejected her words.
