MUMBAI: Shariful Islam Shehzad, who was arrested in the case of attacking Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, has been remanded in police custody for five days. The police demanded a 14-day custody in the Mumbai court.

The suspect, a native of Bangladesh, was arrested this morning. According to the police, Shariful Islam Shehzad came to Mumbai five months ago. He entered India illegally. He changed his name to Bijoy Das. He does not have any Indian documents. A case has been registered against him under the Passport Act.

The accused entered the actor's house to commit robbery. He knew that there would be heavy security arrangements as it was an area where celebrities lived. The accused was working in a housekeeping agency in Mumbai. The police informed the court that they are also investigating if anyone else helped the accused in the robbery.

It is also being investigated whether Shariful Islam Shehzad has any relatives in Mumbai. He is suspected to have hid blood-stained clothes after the attack. The police also told the court that these clothes need to be recovered to test the blood samples.

Meanwhile, the accused's lawyer Dinesh Prajapati argued that the allegations are false. "The incident is getting more attention because a celebrity was attacked. Shariful Islam Shehzad is being made a scapegoat as it is a high-profile case. Nothing incriminating was recovered from Shariful. The police do not have any documents to prove that Shariful is a Bangladeshi," argued the lawyer.
