PALAKKAD: The opposition parties have signaled that they will intensify their protest against the approval of the liquor factory in Kanjikode. Both the Congress and the BJP protested by planting flags at the proposed site taken over for the liquor factory. Congress and BJP have announced a strike on the land acquired at Mannukadu village in Elapully Panchayath for Oasis Liquor Company.

The Congress movement is being led by MP VK Sreekanthan. Sreekanthan MP said that the liquor company will not be allowed to start in a place where there is severe shortage of drinking water.

District General Secretary A K Omanakuttan, who led the BJP's strike, said that it is a mystery that the government has given permission to the company to use water in an area where there is a severe shortage of drinking water. The opposition parties have decided to continue the strike. It has been announced that the Youth Congress will hold a protest march to the project site.

At the same time, Minister MB Rajesh rejected the strike of the opposition parties. The minister alleged that the opposition is conducting a strike only for political purposes. Earlier, the government had also stated that the permission given to the brewery was in compliance with the rules. The panchayat president of the place responded that it was the government that had given permission for the project.
