THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala is heating up even in winter. Temperatures are 2 to 4 degrees above normal. Day temperature is 32 to 37 degrees Celsius including hilly areas. It is 23-25 degrees at night.

Kannur district recorded the highest temperature in the country recently at 37.2 degrees Celsius. In December and January last year, the temperature was as high as 37.5 degrees.

The heat experienced in the months of March, April, and May is seen this winter. Meteorologists say that the temperature is likely to rise in the coming days. There is no possibility of rain in January. There is also concern that the water level in the reservoirs and wells will begin to decrease. Climate change and the effect of global warming are the reasons for the warm winter.

Cold winters happen when northerly winds blow. It didn't happen this time. The influence of the El Nino phenomenon also caused an increase in temperature.

Overheating due to atmospheric humidity

An increase in atmospheric humidity in proportion to the rise in temperature can make it feel warmer than it actually is. Coastal areas with high humidity experience intense heat during the day.

Will burn in summer

The assessment of the weather center is that the summer will be more severe than last time. Last year, the temperature rose to 42 degrees, leading to a heat wave. It is also estimated that the summer rains will bring some relief.

The temperature is high. It is unlikely to decrease in the next few days. Another reason is the lack of northerly wind influence.
