THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Sreethu, the mother of two-year-old Devendu who was murdered in Balaramapuram, has been arrested in a financial fraud case. A case was earlier registered against Sreethu for allegedly defrauding people by promising them jobs in the Devaswom Board.
The police had received ten complaints against Sreethu for fraud. An FIR was registered in two of these complaints. Sreethu had introduced herself as a high-ranking official in the Devaswom Board. However, the police clarified that Sreethu had not even worked on a contract basis in the Devaswom Board.
Sreethu had defrauded the money by promising that she had a salary of Rs 2 lakh and that she could get them a job in the Devaswom Board if she wished. The police have received information that she had lured even the PTA members of the local school. The police are recording their statements as well. Sreethu has given her statement to the police that she gave all this money to astrologer Devidasan to secure a house. The police are examining the bank details and phone details of Devidasan and Sreethu. The phone will be subjected to scientific testing. A woman neighbour of Sreethu had also said that the family was facing financial problems.
"She kept saying that she got a job in the Devaswom Board and was earning more than one lakh rupees a month. Sreethu's mother Ragini Chechi had also said the same. She had taken up to ten lakh rupees from many people by saying that she would get them a job," the neighbour said.
