THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Former BJP state president K Surendran has shown interest in trying his luck for the assembly elections from Vattiyoorkavu. In the last elections, BJP came second in Vattiyoorkavu and, since then, the party have been systematically gaining ground in this region. Insiders within BJP say that Surendran is unlikely to contest if he is not given the Vattiyoorkavu seat.

BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar is almost certain to contest from Nemom, while former Union Minister V Muraleedharan has set his eyes on Kazhakoottam.

If the leadership accepts K Surendran’s wish, the BJP will have strong candidates in all three urban constituencies of the capital. BJP came first in these three constituencies in the local body elections held last month. The initial planned move was to field R Sreelekha in Vattiyoorkavu, but then Surendran surprised all with his wish to contest from the capital city. However, Sreelekha had made it clear that she was not interested in contesting the assembly elections.

K. Surendran is reportedly preparing himself to contest from Vattiyoorkavu, while the leadership prefers to put the former state chief in Palakkad. V.V. Rajesh, who contested as a BJP candidate in the 2021 assembly elections, had come second from Vattiyoorkavu. Amit Shah is coming to the state on the 11th of this month. It is reported that more discussions will take place regarding the candidates after the meeting.
