KANNUR: The CPM has finally come to terms with the cause of ADM Naveen Babu's death. The cause of death was the speech at the farewell meeting made by PP Divya, who was the district panchayat president. CPM Kannur district secretary MV Jayarajan admitted this openly yesterday. The CPM district leadership, including MV Jayarajan, had been trying to justify Divya for so long, both openly and secretly. The state leadership did not reveal a clear stand.

The CPM changed its stand after the representatives raised severe criticism against Divya and the district leadership at the party district conference. MV Jayarajan had taken a stand not to abandon Divya in the press conference held the other day to explain the district conference proceedings. However, he completely rejected Divya in the press conference yesterday.

“It is true that the last remark in Divya's speech is what led to the death of ADM. That is why we said that it was wrong. That is our view then and today. When the allegations against Divya were raised, she was removed from the post of district panchayat president on the same day itself," Jayarajan clarified at the press conference.

Divya was blamed in the work report knowing that criticism would be raised at the conference. The report pointed out that Divya's remarks were unjustifiable. "The party stood with Naveen Babu's family. That was the party's stand from the beginning. That is why party leaders accompanied Naveen Babu's body to Pathanamthitta in a car," MV Jayarajan said in the report.

However, the party's action against Divya was criticized by representatives from her hometown Pappinissery area, as well as from the Madayi and Thalassery areas. They alleged that the party's action was in accordance with the media's agenda. The representatives from the Pappinissery area criticized the stance taken by the Pathanamthitta district committee. However, the criticism of Divya's inappropriate behaviour prevailed.
