THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government has issued an order explaining the criteria for the rehabilitation of the victims of the Wayanad landslide. Those who have houses in safe places outside the disaster area will not be eligible. They will only get relief assistance of four lakh rupees from the SDRF and CMDRF funds for the destruction of their houses. Rehabilitation will not be allowed if the residents of the area have houses elsewhere.
If the houses in the disaster area are rented out, the tenant will be entitled to a new house. A house will be provided only if the person who rented the house does not have another house.
New House even if LIFE house is destroyed
New houses will be provided if the houses built under the LIFE project are destroyed. The LSGD engineer should write off the cost of the construction of the houses. In the case of non-LIFE mission constructions, if the land of the houses under construction is lost or if the land is in a restricted area, then they will be eligible for rehabilitation.
If a member of a family who was living in a rented house had gone out to work at the time of the disaster, and all other members of the family had died, he would be eligible for rehabilitation. However, if he had a house elsewhere or if not all the members of the family had died, he would not be eligible.
If the senior member and his wife who were living in a rented house were out at the time of the disaster and no one else in the family is alive, they are eligible for rehabilitation.
Those who lived in joint families will be provided with a house on the basis of the card if they have more than one ration card. One house per ration card.
Plantation employees residing in hospital staff quarters in containment zones are eligible for rehabilitation if they have no other home.
There will be no rehabilitation for those whose houses in the safe zone have been partially destroyed. Relief assistance will be provided according to the extent of the damage.
A person who has been living in a commercial building on rent is not eligible for rehabilitation.
The owner of a residential building used as a home stay will be provided with rehabilitation if he/she does not have another house.
The owner of a residential building used on a commercial basis, such as a service apartment, will be provided with rehabilitation if he/she does not have another house.
