DUBAI: The Dubai government has announced that misusing government logos can result in fines of up to 500,000 dirhams (Rs 1,18,96,960) and imprisonment for up to five years. The new law has been introduced to regulate the misuse of emblems and logos associated with the Dubai Emirate and the Dubai government. Violators of this law may face penalties of up to five years in prison or a fine ranging from 100,000 to 500,000 dirhams, or both.
The law was issued by UAE Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. As per the new regulation, government logos cannot be used for advertising, product promotions, or any commercial purposes. Any misuse that affects the value of the logo is strictly prohibited. The law also forbids the use of Dubai's emblems in activities that contradict the emirate’s values, principles, and ethics.
The Dubai Emirate logo can only be used with special permission for institutions, events, documents, stamps, and other official purposes. Additionally, Dubai government logos can be used on government buildings, locations, events, operations, documents, websites, and applications. The law mandates that any illegal use of government logos must be immediately reported to the authorities. Expats residing in Dubai are advised to remain cautious and ensure compliance with this regulation.
