Four days after falling from hostel terrace, hospital HR employee succumbs to injuries

KOLLAM: A hospital employee, undergoing treatment after falling from the fourth floor of the hostel, died on Saturday. Thrissur Tholur native Manisha (25), an HR department employee of Kollam Medicity Hospital, died in the incident.

The accident took place last Tuesday night at the Chathannoor MES College Hostel. Nelliyodu native Swathi Sathyan (25), a lab worker at the hospital, also suffered serious injuries in the accident.

They were staying on the second floor of the hostel. On Tuesday, they entered the closed terrace and sat on the slab placed above the plumbing duct to have snacks. Shockingly, the slab collapsed and Manisha fell down while Swathi fell into the drainage tank. Swathi then crawled out of the tank and informed the others about the incident.

The efforts from the hostel authorities to help Manisha went in vain and the fire force from Paravoor came and helped the woman out. Both of them were undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit of the hospital where they worked. Manisha had suffered serious head injuries and was placed on ventilator support, but died on Saturday. Chathannoor police registered a case and started an investigation.
