PARASSALA: Unidentified miscreants vandalized the CPM-ruled Parassala block panchayat office. The conference hall, office rooms, health and education standing committee and welfare standing committee chairmen's office rooms were vandalized.
The windows of the bolero van owned by the Panchayat were found smashed to smithereens. The cupboards in the office were open and the files found scattered. The incident happened on Saturday night. The assailants entered the office by breaking the lock. The police have not yet received any information about them.
Construction work is ongoing on the second floor of the building. It was the workers who arrived on Sunday morning, who first found the office in a vandalized state. The information was immediately reported to Block Panchayat President Ben Darwin. The fire extinguisher cylinders in the office were left open and yellow powder filled with chemicals spread throughout the rooms. The amplifier and mics in the conference hall were also smashed. All of these were left inside the Bolera jeep which they damaged.
The iron rod used to break the gate lock was found with a red flag and was placed leaning on the wall inside the conference room. Under the leadership of DySp Neyyattinkara, fingerprint and forensic experts reached the spot and conducted an inspection.
There are four CCTV cameras in front of the office, but they have been non-functional since Thursday. The police are investigating by checking the CCTV in the nearby areas. After getting a scent from the clothes left in the office, the police dog went on the road and stopped near the Parassala post office junction.
