BENGALURU: In a shocking incident, a former Goa MLA collapsed and died after being assaulted by an autorickshaw driver. The incident took place this afternoon in Belagavi, Karnataka. The deceased is Lavoo Suryaji Mamledar (69), a former MLA from Ponda.
Mamledar had booked a hotel room in Khade Bazaar. While entering the hotel premises, his car accidentally hit an autorickshaw, leading to an argument with the autorickshaw driver. When Mamledar refused to pay compensation, the auto driver allegedly assaulted him, according to eyewitnesses.
After reaching the hotel, Lavoo Mamledar collapsed on the first floor. Although he was immediately rushed to the hospital, his life could not be saved. Belagavi police confirmed that CCTV footage captured the driver assaulting Mamledar multiple times.
