THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala governor Rajendra Arlekar postponed the cabinet recommendation to release Sherin, found guilty and serving a life sentence in the Karnavar murder case. According to the Governor, a detailed inspection is required before reaching a final decision.
The file was sent following all the criteria with the recommendation of the Police, Probation Officer and Jail Department. But it is still not clear why the government chose Sherin and ignored the remission of punishment for women who have served almost 25 years in jail.
The cabinet meeting recommended the relaxation considering the good conduct of Sherin in jail. The release will be possible only if the Governor approves the recommendation. Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala had written to the governor not to accept the cabinet decision.
