HYDERABAD: The rescue operation for the eight people trapped in the Nagarkurnool tunnel has been temporarily suspended. The rescue operation became difficult as water and mud rushed in. The layers of earth above the tunnel had moved. Authorities said that they decided to temporarily suspend the operation considering the risk of danger and the safety of the rescue workers. Currently, water and mud are accumulating in the tunnel.
The Geological Survey of India's report came the other day that there is a possibility of another landslide in the tunnel. Minister Jupally Krishna Rao also responded the other day that the accident site is filled with mud and the rescue workers are struggling.
The Army's Engineering Task Force and Rat Miners arrived the other day for the rescue operation. Oxygen is being supplied to the trapped people. It was last Saturday that a portion of the Srisailam Left Bank Canal Tunnel, which is under construction at Domalapenta in Nagarkurnool district, collapsed.
Eight workers, including two engineers, were trapped. Construction work on the tunnel, which had not been happening for some time, was about to resume.
