CHENNAI: Renowned music director A.R. Rahman, who was admitted to the hospital this morning after experiencing chest pain, has since returned home following medical tests. Rahman's son Ameen informed the media that his father's illness was caused by dehydration. Several people, including Chief Minister MK Stalin, reached out to the hospital to check on Rahman's condition. In the meantime, Rahman's wife, Saira Banu, who had previously announced their separation last year, released a statement wishing him a swift recovery. She also shared additional details in her statement.
In her statement, Saira Banu urged everyone not to address her as Rahman's 'ex-wife'. She stated that Rahman and she are still husband and wife as they are not officially divorced.
'Assalamualaikum. I wish him a speedy recovery. I received the news that he had chest pain and underwent angiography, and by the grace of Allah, he is fine now; he is doing well,' she said.
'I want to tell all of you that we are not officially divorced, we are still husband and wife, it's just that we are separated because I was not feeling well for the last two years and I didn't want to stress him too much but please don't say 'ex-wife'. It's just that we are separated, but my prayers are always with him and I want to say one thing to everyone, especially his family, that please don't stress him too much, and take care of him. Thank you, Allah Hafiz," the statement read.
Rahman was admitted to the Apollo Hospital at Greams Road, Chennai at 7:30 on Sunday morning. Following this, he underwent various medical tests, including ECG and echocardiogram. Hospital sources informed that Rahman also underwent an angiogram. Doctors confirmed that his health issues were due to dehydration. Rahman, who had been in London, returned to Chennai a few days ago.
