KOZHIKODE: Limited space, lack of seating facilities, breastfeeding in toilets, lack of facilities and equipment in counselling rooms. The State Child Rights Commission study says that the family courts in the state are overwhelmed by limitations. Child-friendly environment is also lacking. Maharashtra, Karnataka, Delhi and Rajasthan are ahead of Kerala. The situation is slightly better in Kozhikode and Ernakulam.
The Ettumanoor Family Court's counselling room can barely accommodate two people. None of the four family courts in Thiruvananthapuram has equipped counselling rooms. There is no facility for counselling in privacy at the Kollam Town Court. Although there is a breastfeeding room in the Kottarakkara Family Court, the space is limited. When there is a power outage in the Paravoor Court, there is no light in the counselling rooms.
Sittings disrupted
The report also states that sittings are not being held in the Pathanamthitta court due to technical reasons. There are no daily sittings in the Thiruvalla and Adoor courts as there is only one judge. There is no safe place for children to sit. Dispositions are delayed in the Malappuram court due to the large number of cases.
