TEL AVIV: Just hours after the ceasefire agreement ended, Israel launched a deadly attack on Gaza killing over 200 people. This is the largest airstrike carried out by Israel since the ceasefire came into effect on January 19. Talks to extend the ceasefire had failed.
The Israeli military announced resuming the attacks since the ceasefire terms got stalled. About 150 people were injured in the attacks, which included attacks in northern Gaza, Gaza City, Deir al-Balah, Khan Younis, and Rafah in the central and southern Gaza Strip.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reasoned the attack as a response to the Hamas’ reluctance to hand over hostages. Israel also accused Hamas of rejecting proposals from US presidential envoy Steve Witkoff and other mediators. Meanwhile, a White House spokesman said that the Israeli president had consulted with US President Donald Trump before carrying out the attack. Trump had earlier warned Hamas to abide by the terms or else face the consequences.
Hamas meanwhile accused Netanyahu of violating and sabotaging the ceasefire agreement. Hamas said in a statement that Israel breaching the ceasefire violations was "pushing Israeli prisoners in Gaza to an unknown fate."
Hamas wants Israel to completely withdraw from Gaza in the second phase which the Jews have no plan to do. In the first phase, as part of the agreement, Israel released 643 Palestinian prisoners.
