Prithviraj Sukumaran, the young superstar of the Malayalam industry is now the film director of Malayalam’s highest-budget movie. His talent behind the camera was out on display in ‘Lucifer’. Anecdotes from the industry have often mentioned Prithviraj’s craze to learn the intricacies of cameras on shooting sets. Many directors have quirkily remarked on how Prithvi used to ‘disturb’ them with queries regarding the use of camera and shot selection during shooting.
In the latest interview, Prithviraj revealed the first time it fell on him to take the director’s hat in mollywood. And it was not for Lucifer.
“Before Lucifer, I was supposed to direct a film; 'City of God'. During that time, I got a call from Mani Ratnam for ‘Raavan’ and I had to give up the dream. The movie fell in the hands of Lijo Jose and he crafted it out beautifully. I still consider it one of my favourite movies. It was the first time that I said yes to directing a movie. I am still not sure if the movie would have been any better if it came out under my direction. Lijo did a terrific work. It was only for Mani Ratnam’s call that I dropped the project.”
