KOCHI: The Income Tax Department has served a notice to actor Prithviraj soon after his recent film Empuraan has been embroiled in controversies. An explanation has been sought from the actor in connection with his remuneration for three films. The department has asked him to provide information about his remuneration for the films Kaduva, Janaganamana and Gold. Prithviraj had not received any remuneration as an actor in these films. However, it has been found that Prithviraj received around Rs 40 crore as a co-producer.
The Income Tax Department has demanded him to clarify on the money received in the name of the production company for these films. The Income Tax Department has explained that this is a natural step. It is also noteworthy that the move against the film's director Prithviraj comes in the context of the ED raiding the establishments of Gokulam Movies owner Gokulam Gopalan, one of the distributors of the film Empuraan.
