Assam native killed in deliberate hit-and-run in Kerala; accused murderer caught by police at Areekode

KONDOTTI: The incident in which an Assam native died in a road accident in Kizhissery on Wednesday night has been proven to be a murder. The Kondotty police have arrested Guljar Hussain (33), a native of Kachua Pamila Jarani in Nagaon district of Assam and a goods auto driver, in the incident. The deceased has been identified as Ahadul Islam (30), a native of Kachua Juripar in Assam.

The accident took place at Kizhissery market around 10.30 pm on Wednesday. The two had an argument over a financial transaction. Then, Guljar hit Ahadul Islam, who was walking, from behind with his goods autorickshaw near Izzath School on Kizhissery Manjeri Road. He ran the vehicle over Ahadul Islam's body, who had fallen to the ground, and sped away. The locals who saw the incident immediately informed the police. Ahadul Islam was taken to Manjeri Medical College in an ambulance but could not be saved. The police, who received information that there was something unusual in the incident, found the accused moving rapidly towards Kozhikode. The accused was caught with the vehicle at Vavoor, Areekode at around 1.30 am. A case of murder was registered against him.

After conducting the post-mortem at Manjeri Medical College, Ahadul's body was buried at the Alinchuvad Juma Masjid, Kizhissery. The post-mortem revealed that the cause of death was serious injuries to the ribs and internal organs caused by the vehicle running over him. The accused, who was produced before the Malappuram court, has been remanded for 14 days.

Guljar Hussain, who had been living in Kizhissery with his family for about 15 years, was an employee at a fish shop in Poongudi, Areekode. The accused used the shop owner's vehicle to commit the murder. Ahadul Islam had been living with his family in Alinchuvadu, Kizhissery, for two years and had been working in the construction sector. It is said that the two had a dispute over a financial transaction.
