THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The police have confirmed that a huge financial liability is the lone reason for the mass killings in Venjaramoodu that shook Kerala. Afaan and his mother did not have a single penny in their hands. On the previous day of the murders, Afaan had borrowed Rs 200 from his female friend. After filling petrol for his bike for Rs 100, he and his mother went to their kin’s house to borrow money. The two then had dosas from a hotel with the balance 100.

On the day the murders were committed, had to return Rs 50,000. He told police that he committed the murders before the creditors arrived. He also told police that as he didn’t want to see his mother and brother begging, tried to kill the two.

The police said Afaan and his mother's lack of financial discipline is behind the huge financial liability. Even when there was a huge debt to pay off, Afaan had bought a bike for Rs 2 lakh. The police will be filing the chargesheet in the case soon.

The police had questioned Afaan and his father Abdul Rahim together. Rahim burst into tears seeing Afaan and asked him ‘you destroyed everything’. Afaan then said that as he didn’t want his see his mother and brother begging, committed the act.
